Snowblower As a Convenient Snow Removing Tool

!: Snowblower As a Convenient Snow Removing Tool

When it is winter and there is much unwanted snow on such places as pavements, roads, sidewalks etc., there is a very useful and convenient machine to get rid of snow. This type of gear is usually called snowblower or snowthrower. However, there is a slight difference between snowblowers and snowthrowers. A snowthrower is a single-stage equipment while a snowblower is a two-stage machine for snow removal. An engine is one of the most important snowblower parts. Its power greatly affects overall snowblower performance. The engine can either use electric power or diesel fuel.

There are many different snowthrower manufacturers offering various models. The most famous are Craftsman snowblower and John Deere snowblower. Snow throwers vary from the small ones, able to remove slightly several centimeters of snow in a 46 - 50 centimeters way, to large machines, installed on a powerful vehicles and able to remove 3 meters of snow or more up to 3 meters deep. Snow blowers are usually classified into two groups: single stage and two stage.

Single-stage snow throwers utilize a single high-velocity bucket wheel not only to move snow inside and outside of the machine. The bucket wheel usually has the form of several (usually two) elbowed paddles moving the snow inside the machine in the direction of a discharge spout. Single-stage snow throwers are generally electricity-driven small machines for home use.

There is one exception in single-stage snow throwers - large rotary snow throwers utilized by the rail ways to remove snow on tracks in winter. Such rotary machines utilize one or two huge bucket wheels covering the whole width of a train and throwing the snow aside.

Alternatively, two-stage snow blowers possess one or two snowthrower augers breaking the snow and moving it into the fan (bucket wheel). The fan blows out the snow with large force. All snow blowers are, as a rule, two-stage gear. The power of two-stage snow blowers varies from several horsepower in small machines to a thousand and more in large equipment propelled by diesel engines. Such powerful machines are used to clean the roads and landing strips in airports. They can remove significant amount of snow very quickly.

Two-stage machines for home use are usually self-propelled, using either large wheels equipped with tire chains or, in some cases, tracks. These are usually single-purpose machines, though some are detachable front ends that can be replaced with other implements, such as a rotary tiller.

The auger drive is usually equipped with a shear pin. If a major jam occurs in the auger, this pin will break. This controlled failure prevents damage to the auger drive gears. Once the pin has failed it must be replaced before the machine can be used again, this is generally a relatively simple process.

Two-stage snow blowers are generally self-propelled units utilizing huge wheels with chains or tracks. There is a shear pin installed on a snowblower auger drive. It prevents drive gears from damaging. Replacement of the shear pin is a simple process. Another vital parts are snowblower belts and snowblower skids. They ensure proper work of a snowthrower. Usually it is possible to buy snowblower parts in every specialized store.

The DIY Way To Sharpen Lawn Mower Blades

!: The DIY Way To Sharpen Lawn Mower Blades

Is your lawn mower tearing of the lawn grass blades instead of cutting it? Does your lawn look like it has been eaten by a goat, in spite of being cut by the lawn mower? Wait; do not pull your hair by the root. Help is at hand. We will teach you how to sharpen the lawn mower blades at minimum price and effort.

Your Manual Lawn Mower - The Faithful Walk Behinds

Tools: The tools that your will require for doing this job are

You and your time of about 2 hours or less

A bastard file of about 12" long

A small crow bar to prevent movement of rotor of lawn mower.

A worktable will be useful for dong the job comfortably.

Procedure: You can use the following procedure as a general guide and make changes to it to suit you. Remember the procedure is not sacrosanct. The results are important, not the procedure.

If possible, remove the handle of lawn mower and place lawn mower on the table.

Secure it if possible in the clamps. If you do not have clamps, do not bother, secure it against any block, so that the movement away from you is restricted.

Fix the crowbar in the blades so that it will not rotate

With the help of the bastard file, file the edges of blades so that they look sharp. Work at an angle of 45 degrees

When one blade is sharpened, remove the crowbar and turn the rotor to work on another blade. Repeat the procedure until all blades are sharpened.

If you have a flexible shaft grinder in your DIY workshop, you will be able to complete the work within 5 to 10 minutes per blade. Make a template of blade profile before you start your work and compare frequently. This is necessary to ensure that you do not over cut at a place.

Safety Tip For You

While sharpening the blades ensure that the stroke is not too long otherwise, you may injure yourself.

Sharpening Blades Of Power Mower

Depending upon the lawn mower the procedure may vary. We have included general statements in this procedure; you would have to change the procedure slightly. Keep the maintenance manual of lawn mower handy if you have one.

Tools required.

Siphon hose and clean container

Heavy work gloves and goggles

Double-cut (medium-rough) flat file

Lumber scrap

Socket wrench set

Rubber mallet*

Bench vise or C clamps

Rotary blade sharpener accessory

Electric drill*

Screwdriver, or 1/4-in. rod or bolt*

Blade balancer

Replacement blade*

* Only if required

The list may look formidable, but tools are generally available with every DIY enthusiast.

Procedure:

The procedure is given for the simple single blade lawn mower, but the same will apply to all types of blades, whether single or double

Wear hand gloves and clean the engine and the gasoline tank from outside

Remove spark plug from the engine

Remove all the fuel from the tank of the gasoline engine. Use the siphon hose so you do not spill gasoline on floor.

Completely empty out the oil from gearbox if you have one

Invert the engine and have access to the blade.

Clamp the engine so it does not move and clean the blade area thoroughly

With help of a box spanner, remove the nut holding the blade. Usually the nut will be unlocked in the reverse to direction of rotation of engine. You may engage the screwdriver in the cooling fan of engine to stop rotation of engine.

If you find that you are using too much force to unlock the nut, put one or two drops of rust removing chemical, and try after 30 minutes

After you remove the blade, clamp it in the bench vise and sharpen it with a file or a grinder. Sharpen only the outer 2 to 3 inches. The area to be sharpened will be known if you see the blade.

Sharpen only to the required extent. Too much sharpening is not necessary. This is not the knife. It works at the speed of the engine

After sharpening, check with your thumb. Be careful not to cut thumb. If you have done sharpening before, or seen some one doing it, you will know what we mean by this.

Balance the blade with help of a small balancing tool on VEE blocks, or even on two foot rulers placed side by side

Refit the blades, refill engine oil and gasoline and test the sharpness of blades on uncut portion of your lawn

Safety tips:

Always use safety goggles and hand gloves when working with power tools.

Be sure to remove the spark plug before starting. Serious accidents can happen if you do not do this.

Lawn Mower Parts - Troubleshooting Lawn Mower Problems

!: Lawn Mower Parts - Troubleshooting Lawn Mower Problems

You need a lawn mower that is in good working condition to be able to maintain your lawn in an immaculate condition. Troubleshooting lawn mower parts can be difficult because there are many parts and many reasons why the mower will not work.

It is always good to know the basics of any machine you own and to be able to fix the minor malfunctions without interrupting the work for any long period of time. It is the same with the lawn mower; small malfunctions need immediate fixing or the lawn either gets cut very badly or not at all. A word of advice, before attempting to troubleshoot lawn mower parts that are not functioning, turn off the engine and remove the spark plug; always wear protective goggles and gloves. Now you are ready to roll up those sleeves and get started!

Step one in any troubleshooting process is to make an assessment and decide whether the machine is worth repairing or should it be trashed.

Let us start with the engine which refuses to start. It could be one of two things, one, as simple as being out of fuel or two, problems with the ignition. If it is the fuel, here are some tips you should keep in mind; use the right mix of oil and gasoline and mix well before filling the mower. Use old fuel in the car, don't store it over the winter; buy fresh for the next spring season. When storing gas always ensure it is put in an airtight container in a cool dry place far from heat and any sparks.

If it is not the fuel you can check the spark plugs; remove the spark plug and ground the "hex" part of the plug to a bare metal part of the mower, now spin the engine, a blue spark should jump out, if there is a good strong spark the ignition is not the problem. If on the other hand the spark is weak you will have to get a new spark plug, check for spark before installing.

In this manner you will need to check all the lawn mower parts to make sure they are in good working condition.

Wheel Horse Tractors

!: Wheel Horse Tractors

Wheel Horse tractors have long been the machine of choice for those who need heavy-duty lawn and farm equipment. They are made in the United States and manufactured to the highest standards of quality. One of the tractors that was made 30 years ago can be just as good as the day it was made thanks to the quality and ingenuity used in their production. With its variety of attachments, a Wheel Horse machine will stand up to any job that you throw at it.

They have a variety of attachments available. Some of the most versatile are a snow plow and a dump cart. If you have a large farm or garden, there are a number of attachments that are designed to make the difficult jobs of farming just a little bit easier. These include a tiller and a cultivator. If you have trouble finding these parts at your local farm store, check ebay to see if they are available there. As always, if you are considering buying a Wheel Horse part from ebay review the seller's feedback and make sure you will be getting what you pay for. Since all Wheel Horse attachments are manufactured to the same high standards, you know that they will last just as long as the original machine.

If you have trouble finding one new, a used Wheel House tractor is an excellent long-term purchase. Because of the durability of these machines many people purchase them used and restore them. If you are interested in attempting this, some knowledge of auto or tractor mechanics is helpful.

The Wheel Horse brand, which has been manufactured in the United States since the mid nineteen-hundreds has recently been purchased by Toro. Toro is one of the largest producers of lawn machines and yard equipment in the country. They are particularly well known for their riding tractors, and their snow blowers. Toro has many distributors and retailers nationwide, and even around the world. Based on their performance so far, Toro is poised to carry on the quality of the brand well into the future.

Tips When Seeking a Riding Lawn Mower

!: Tips When Seeking a Riding Lawn Mower

There are many different reasons for someone to purchase a riding lawnmower. Perhaps their health no longer allows them to push a mower or maybe they have moved to a new house that has a much larger yard. Whatever the reason, deciding to purchase a riding lawn mower deserves some research. Before actually buying one, this article will give some tips to help you with such an important decision.

Naturally, you should know the actual size of your yard, which can help you determine what size lawnmower engine you will need and what cutting width is needed for the lawn mower blades. As a general rule, if the area you need to mow is from one half to one acre in size, then you should consider an engine that has a minimum of 14.5 horsepower and a maximum cutting width of 42 inches. If you have a yard that is one to two acres in size, then the cutting width should generally be from 42 to 46 inches and the engine between 14.5 and 16 horsepower.

As a general rule of thumb, a yard that consists of more than three acres might be better serviced with a garden tractor. While both the garden tractor and riding lawn mower complete the same basic functions, the garden tractor can also be used with a snow plow or snow blower. It can also pull a plow, tiller, disc harrow and a number of other lawn and garden tools.

Once you have taken care of the bigger decisions, the smaller ones are a little easier. You will need to choose whether you would prefer a gear driven or automatic riding mower. This is normally based on the number of obstacles, such as trees, patios or gardens that are in your yard. An automatic mower is great for yards that have a great deal of obstacles, while a gear driven one is perfect for a yard with less obstacles. You can then decide what type of accessories or attachments you want.

In order to avoid injury be sure that you understand the safety precautions fully and that you always follow them. Avoid allowing children to ride on mowers or to operate the mower, as it is very easy for them to fall off, which may result in a serious or fatal accident. Do not run the riding mowers around people if possible, as you may run over something that can be flung out and cause injury to anyone in the area.

Try to be sure that all potentially hazardous or dangerous debris, such as pine cones, rocks, toys or other tools are cleared from the lawn before you start mowing. Choosing the right riding lawn mower, such as one of the Toro lawn mowers, and following all safety precautions will help ensure that you will enjoy the mower for years to come.

Trouble Shooting Your Lawn Mower

!: Trouble Shooting Your Lawn Mower

The majority of gas powered movers last for about 10 years before they call for changing. A friend of mine has been using a second hand Toro for around 7 years now giving him barely minor problems.

In view of the fact that long dormant mowers are being utilized again, perhaps this material will assist you from getting an injury.

Even if you have encountered a problem or not, Rule number one is to empty the fuel tank and replenish it afterwards with clean fuel. Sealed tanks when not used for a long period of time tend to accumulate moisture inside that can cause damage to the mower's motor.

Similar to any vehicle, the motor oil must be drained and replaced with fresh oil every three months or so. Draining the old oil from your mower is a piece of cake, just remove the plug located at the bottom and tilt the mower on its side.

When the mower had difficulty starting, try cleaning the spark plug and configure the gap or it would be better to change the spark plug with a new one. Configuring the gap should be in your mower's manual.

It's also a good idea to change the fuel filter. The material inside the filter tends to get hard after some time. If your mower sounded like its choking, its time to replace that fuel filter.

In order for you to have a great looking lawn, the blades of your mower must be sharp. A dull blade won't give you a uniformly cut lawn. It is recommended to hone your blades at least two times for every mowing period and all you have to get is a metal filer.

Finally, after every use, clean your mower of trimmings from the intake to under chassis to the exhaust. To avoid corrosion, don't use water or other liquids to clean it, and so you can enjoy longer service of your lawn mower.

When you have done all of this and that lawn mower still won't work, there must be a reliable repair shop nearby to fix whatever problem you have with your lawn mower.

Little maintenance or no maintenance at all to your lawn mower will give you a bunch of trouble after some time and it could be costly.

Why Not Just Rent a Small Garden Tiller?

!: Why Not Just Rent a Small Garden Tiller?

Small garden tiller tools are needed if one has a big garden, and not everyone could just till on a tiny plot. Some of the lucky ones have just the right sized garden that can produce the vegetables for the house especially during spring and summer. However, tilling, no matter the size, is always tiring especially if you don't have the physical capability to do so. Having a small garden tiller as part of you equipment is something that is both useful as well as essential.

Maybe because man is basically rooted to the soil, making it very hard to ignore. Somehow, the soil calls the gardener in us and makes us dream of fresh, fresh, fresh. One other thing I noticed, freshly tilled soil somehow gives out the message of 'plant seeds.'

When you have a small garden tiller, it is easy to maneuver around tight spots and areas where there might be boulders or trees that are set in the middle of your plot. If you don't want to pry them out, the small garden tiller will work just fine moving around it.

The weight of this small tiller is also what makes it attractive. Lightweight at only 11 pounds, this makes it easy to lift and bring around wherever you want to bring it. Another aspect to be happy about is that the handle are usually foldable, meaning that you can actually just store it upright in a closet big enough to hold it. Some people are just not into buying brand new stuff; they would rather just rent or hire someone to do it for them. But the more the gardener, the more they want to own their own equipment, be they used tillers or new.

Buying used equipment is good as there are a lot offered out there that are in pretty good condition. But don't expect too much from them as if they were new. They are not; they have been used and probably mechanically challenged. If you are not interested in owning one, why not just rent or hire the neighbour's kid? I am sure there are kids out there who would love to have a summer job tilling gardens.

Also, there is something you should know about small garden tillers, they are not designed for heavy duty jobs. So, try loosening up the soil first before you till it. This may be frustrating, but that is the truth to using a small garden tiller.
